The Future Sound of India
“The music is all around us, all you have to do... is listen”- August Rush.
Every musician knows the importance of sound and endeavors to create a unique sound to express themselves through their work. Pioneers in the music industry, bands, and singers have left an immortal spell on their listeners with the power of the sounds they created. Today, world-class bands are recognized by their distinct styles because of the quality of their sound production. Clearly, sound production is the backbone of true music. We often speak of different genres of music but have you ever thought of the impact that sound has on every genre? Yes, each genre differs from the other in the way it is arranged, its programming style, and how its sound has been treated. A look at the current scenario tells us that it’s high time we put sound production in the front row since it is sound production that covers each and every segment of the process of creating a hit number.
THE FUTURE SOUND OF INDIA event was launched as the ultimate carnival of sound, of live music production where technology meets musicians and that too, in a competitive mode. This was a competition where bands and musicians competed with each other on the parameters of a new age sound production.
Season 1 was called the Future Sound of North East (FS ONE) as it commenced from culturally rich North East region of India.
The participants were judged based on the following parameters:
1. Best Original Score:
This segment was dedicated to the original scores of the bands that clear the preliminary selection round. The tracks had to be exclusive and their own compositions. The lyrics of the song can contain content in any language the participants chose but the tune must be an original and exclusive one.
2. Best Cover Song:
Covers of famous songs have been trending during the past few years, hence this was a very crucial segment of the competition. It was mandatory that the cover songs by each band should have a signature style of their own clearly indicating their ability to design sound.
3. Sound of the Soil:
This was the most entertaining, exciting and experimental part of the competition. The contestants had to incorporate the signature sound of the SEVEN SISTERS into their performance in this segment. All they had to do is pick a popular track, find the core of it and blend it with a particular sound of their culture and region, recreate and perform it. We were looking out for the ultimate fusion.
4. Best Technical Band:
Through the entire competition the judges were on the lookout for the best technical band based on both their individual members’ performance and well as how they perform as a team.
5. Best Sound Design:
Sound design plays a major role in creating sound. The judges looked for the band which created the most interesting, innovative and appealing sound through all the rounds during this segment.
